Geodetic observations for constraining mantle processes in Antarctica

چکیده

Abstract Geodynamic processes in Antarctica such as glacial isostatic adjustment (GIA) and post-seismic deformation are measured by geodetic observations global navigation satellite systems (GNSS) gravimetry. GNSS measurements have comprised both continuous episodic since the mid-1990s. The estimated velocities typically reach an accuracy of 1 mm a −1 for horizontal 2 vertical velocities. However, elastic due to present-day ice-load change needs be considered accordingly. Space gravimetry derives mass changes from small variations inter-satellite distance pair satellites, starting with GRACE (Gravity Recovery Climate Experiment) mission 2002 continuing GRACE-FO (GRACE Follow-On) launched 2018. spatial resolution is low (about 300 km) but measurement error homogeneous across Antarctica. trends contain signals ice-mass change, local GIA signals. To combine strengths individual datasets, statistical combinations GNSS, altimetry data been developed. These rely on realistic estimates assumptions snow density. Nevertheless, they capture that missing geodynamic forward models large uplift Amundsen Sea sector caused low-viscous response century-scale changes.

Constraining the source of mantle plumes

In order to link the geochemical signature of hot spot basalts to Earth’s deep interior, it is first necessary to understand how plumes sample di↵erent regions of the mantle. Here, we investigate the relative amounts of deep and shallow mantle material that are entrained by an ascending plume and constrain its source region. The plumes are generated in a viscous syrup using an isolated heater f...

Geodetic Mobile Survey Methods for Riverbank Erosion Observations

Rivers are relief features susceptible to change over time more than any other. Dynamic and intensity of those changes depend on a series of factors that have been a research topic for decades, all with the goal of predicting and/or preventing changes that have a negative effect on ecological and administrative systems alike. This is especially evident on big river systems. The topic of water c...

Geometrical Deformation Analysis of Gotvand-Olya Dam Using Permanent Geodetic Monitoring Network Observations

In this paper, two-dimensional deformation analysis of the Gotvand-Olya dam is done using daily, monthly, seasonal and annual displacement vectors derived from permanent observations of the dam geodetic monitoring network.  The strain tensor and its invariant parameters like dilatation and maximum shear are computed as well. Nonlinear finite element interpolation based on C1 Cubic Bezier int...

Constraining the recent mass balance of Pine Island and Thwaites glaciers, West Antarctica, with airborne observations of snow accumulation

In Antarctica, uncertainties in mass input and output translate directly into uncertainty in glacier mass balance and thus in sea level impact. While remotely sensed observations of ice velocity and thickness over the major outlet glaciers have improved our understanding of ice loss to the ocean, snow accumulation over the vast Antarctic interior remains largely unmeasured. Here, we show that a...

The edgelist algorithm for constraining phase unwrapped solutions with additional geodetic information

Phase unwrapping as used in InSAR geodesy is the reconstruction of absolute phase from measured phase known only modulo 2 on a finite grid of points in either 2 two or three dimensions. Many effective methods have been developed for unwrapping SAR interferograms [1-5], however phase unwrapping is a key step in many other coherent imaging techniques as well. Network programming approaches [3-4] ...
